Some time this week I imagine, but voting doesn't close until Friday so there's still plenty of time.

The theme phrase (not word this time round) for May's RiaR will be...

Some really top-notch entries again this month! Ultimately however my points are allocated thus -

1st - Offering - Tyrant
Curiously when I was pondering sacrifice concepts the second one I chalked up was "pskyer given to the Golden Throne". You did a much better job than I would have done though. Very smoothly done indeed.

2nd - The Finer Things - Raz
I love the ending, it somewhat brings to mind (in a much more violent way) the gentleman in Titanic who decide to go down with the ship. "We are dressed in our best and are prepared to go down like gentlemen ... but I would like a brandy!"

3rd - Blessed of the Omnissiah - Atlantic
The first idea I chalked up when I was considering concepts was a Tech Adept sacrificing his own flesh and humanity to be closer to the purity of the machine. Then I read the entries already submitted and reconsidered - I liked this story way better.

4th - A Human Moment - Phalanx
As stated elsewhere - this has improved greatly with some spit and polish.

Honourable mentions to LL for "Just One" and Squiggle with "Guillimans Folly". Good month chaps!

:D
It's a brilliant plan with no obvious flaws. You should do it immediately.

And it's just over an hour to go now.

Here's mine:

1. Names - Ballistichimp. Gloriously beautiful writing. A very simple idea (it's almost a non-story, in some respects), but it's full of lots of little quirky details that grab the imagination and won't let go. Excellent.

2. Just One - LordLucan. Beautiful imagery and a clear sense of desperation that permeates throughout. And a certain kind of nobility, too - which is rare enough in the 40K setting. Great story.

3. The Finer Things - Raziel. There was some considerable relish in that final reveal, wasn't there? A great story with some very nice little touches like the significance of the (mis)pronunciation of the Tau ambassador's name.

4. Gulliman's Folly - Squiggle. Simple and elegantly done. I'm on a bit of a Space Marine kick myself at the moment and this resonated rather nicely. Good job.

There were a lot 'bubbling under' - stu (your imagination keeps on getting more twisted, doesn't it?), Commander Shadow, Jelboy and Tyrant, who, if there'd been a fifth vote available, would have definitely got it!

One more hour to go, chaps!

Right. I've had a request to extend the deadline for voting and have agreed. The new deadline is:

2200BST; Saturday 7th May 2011

All the best!

I presume that means 2200 BST not 2200 GMT?

Sorry. Yes. I've altered the post accordingly. Keep on forgetting we're in summer time. Probably something to do with the rain.

Although why I wouldn't associate rain with British Summer Time, I have no idea...

And, after that rather pointless extension, here are the results:

First place with 37 points was Tyrant with Offering. Second and third were closely contested but Ballistichimp's Names just edges out Raziel4707's The Finer Things, 31 to 30. Fourth place was LordLucan with Just One on 21 points.

11 stories received votes and 6 of those received first place votes from at least one reader.

Congratulations to Ty on a deserved win and thanks to everyone who's taken part.

The new comp will go live tomorrow.

Damn, missed out on this. At least I wasn't the one who asked for the extension...
